- | Lunatix 4.1a -- Upgrading Notes |
- +---------------------------------+
-
- What section(s) to read, based on your current version before this:
-
- Section 0: If you are Upgrading from Version 3.2a or newer
- Section 1: If you are a registered user of 3.1d or earlier
- Section 2: If you are a user (registered or not) of 2.3a and newer
- Section 3: If you are a user (registered or not) version before 2.3a
-
- -----------
- SECTION 0
- -----------
- This is a "plug-and-play" upgrade from version 3.1d and newer. Lunatix now
- has "external" text rooms designed. These rooms are now needed because
- Lunatix no longer has the "old" style internal rooms. This was done to
- conserve memory, as well as make the game much easier to configure.
-
- If you're upgrading from Version 3.2a or newer, you can simply copy this
- archive into your Lunatix directory and you're ready to run.
-
- Note: A new command line Parm, LOCAL, has been added. See WHATSNEW.DOC.
-
- -----------
- SECTION 1
- -----------
-
- FOR REGISTERED USERS: Code changed as of 3.2a
-
- The Registration code scheme has changed. BEFORE you upgrade to 3.2a+,
- if you have already registered your copy of Lunatix (before my separation
- from HCI on 10-13-95) then you should request your free updated reg codes
- from N-E-Ware by leaving an E-Mail message on The Rolling Eye BBS at
- 316-733-6365. If you were unfortunate enough to register *after* 10-13-95
- then I will not be receiving that money, and cannot update your codes. If
- you have not yet registered, you will receive the new codes now.
-
- Be sure to type your existing codes when you request the updated codes,
- so I can check those and validate them. I am VERY sorry for the
- inconvenience this is going to cause, but it cannot be helped. Registered
- sysops, be sure to request your updated codes before you install 3.2a or
- newer. For a short time, (about a week) I will also upgrade reg-codes
- received after 10-13 (ones I will not be paid for) during this
- transition. After this, any Reg-codes given by HCI will only work with
- versions of Lunatix before 3.2a, because I will not be validating those,
- since I will not be receiving that money. *However* under some cases, I
- may upgrade these later codes for free, at my discretion.
-
- First of all, if you have Lunatix installed and are upgrading to a new
- version, there is NEVER a reason to reset your players. From the very
- first version until now, no matter what *other* things you must do to
- upgrade, you *never* have to reset the game. (That should make your
- players happy).
-
-
- -----------
- SECTION 2
- -----------
-
- UPGRADE INFO ----
-
- If you do not already have Lunatix installed, read the Lunatix.Doc for full
- Installation instructions.
-
- If you already have version 2.3a or newer setup, run the MAKEMOD.EXE program,
- or select to "create .txt and .dat files" in the install program (the same
- thing either way). That's all (besides a reg-code upgrade for registered
- users) for an upgrade from 2.3a to this version. If your current version is
- before 2.3a, read on for upgrade information.
-
-
- -----------
- SECTION 3
- -----------
-
- Otherwise, for a version earlier than 2.3a...
-
- First of all, with the release of 2.3a, I've had several people report that
- they erased EVERYTHING to install the new version. Don't do this! Do NOT
- erase your player files, there is absolutely no need to do that. If in
- doubt, the files PLAYERS.DAT and NAMELIST.DAT are your player files. Keep
- them. Don't erase them. You do NOT need to reset the game at all.
-
- =====-----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====
- To upgrade from a version before 2.3a:
- =====-----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====
-
- Go into the Master Lunatix directory and DEL LUNATIX.CFG and DEL LINKTO.BBS
- If you have other nodes, scrap all those other directories. All Lunatix
- needs now is the Master Directory.
-
- Also, DELete the IGM.DAT file... none of those are going to work now.
- But there are new version of my first 3 IGM's that should work. :)
-
- Now, Run the install program, and create LUNATIX.CFG and LINKTO.BBS which
- will be the default names for Node 0. Also run the option to "Create Text
- and Data Files"
-
- If you have other Nodes, go to the Node setup option, and you will first
- select to bring up the node 0 info that you just created. Now, Edit for
- your next node and (S)ave it as Node 1. Then you can either edit that and
- save it as Node 2, or select to load another node and edit it. This has
- been requested by many multi-node sysops, so here it is.
-
- NOW the bad news. Trashing the whole Lunatix Install process and re-doing
- it also means that all IGMs are obsolete. The good news is I've re-done
- my own for this and the new versions are available now.
-
- Basically, it now creates the normal 2 setup files for node 0, and it creates
- LUNATIX.1 and LINKTO.1 for node 1, and so on.
-
- Now, to call Lunatix from each node, you must pass the node number preceded
- by 'N'. LUNATIX N0 will boot up with the node 0 info. LUNATIX N2 will boot
- up with your node 2 info, and so on.
-
- Another change: Be sure the current directory is the Lunatix directory...
- in other words CD \LUNATIX or whatever. No more Lunatix node directories,
- just one directory with multiple config files that are read based on the
- node number you pass.
-
- Also, if you are a registered user, you'll have to break out the Reg codes
- and type them in using Install Option (A). This is so they're there once,
- instead of having to register the config for each and every node.
